Renshi Bak's initial martial arts
experience goes back to the fall of 1971, in Noranda, Quebec. There he was
introduced to Judo and a seed was planted.
In 1976 Bak sensei became
acquainted with sensei Herb Hoenig and the art of Goju-Ryu Karate. The
dojo was in the town of Kincardine, Ontario and was one of only three
dojos (Toronto, Pettawawa) belonging to the Canada Goju Karate
Association. In 1980, thanks to the support of sensei Dennis (Rock) Fry,
Bak sensei received his shodan in Goju-Ryu karate from Bill Hind Kyoshi.
In 2000 Bak sensei met George
Dillman sensei and Steve Stewart sensei and began the study of Kyusho
Jitsu. In 2003 Bak sensei was awarded his nidan in Kyusho.
Renshi John Bak presently holds the
ranks of roku dan (6th degree) in Goju-Ryu Karate and sandan (3rd degree) in Kyusho Jitsu. Bak sensei is also an accomplished instructor in Kobudo
(Weapons) where upon he studies the Matayoshi system of kobudo.
During a very short
but active competitive career Bak sensei placed in the top 3 of over 40
open martial arts tournaments. The most notable were: Canadian Open
Champion, S.O.K.A. Champion, Canada Goju Karate Champion and L.H.Z.
Champion.
Today Bak sensei's primary
focus is to research and develope credible martial arts with students and
friends. To date Bak's School of Martial Arts has helped
over 30 people attain the rank of black
belt. Renshi Bak is the first person to have introduced Kyusho Jitsu to
many area martial artists, local police forces
and military personnel. Maintaining a high
standard and true credibility in the martial arts is
optimum at Bak's Martial Arts
Bak sensei
has had the privilege to have been taught by some of the most famous
martial artists in the world. These include Seneha sensei (Japan) , Onaga
sensei (Japan), Meitatsu Yagi sensei (Japan), Morio Higaonna sensei (Japan
/ U.S.A ), Chuck Merriman sensei (U.S.A.), George Dillman sensei (U.S.A.),
Bill "Superfoot" Wallace (U.S.A.), Wally Slocki sensei (Canada), Cezar
Borkowski sensei (Canada), Steve Stewart sensei (Canada), Luis Morales
Kyoshi (U.S.A.) and Bill Hind Hanshi the most senior Goju Ryu Karate practitioner in Canada. |
